Service Description
Cambelt / Timing Belt A timing belt is another word for a cam belt. The cambelt is a rubber belt which controls the timing of a vehicle’s internal combustion engines. It is a vital part in making the vehicle run smoothly. It ensures that the crankshaft and camshaft rotate in synchronization. A snapped timing belt is rare, but tension issues are more common. If the belt is too loose it will end up whipping around inside the engine, which will cause a variety of knock on effects. Contrastingly, if the belt is too tight, it will put a strain on the cog bearings it is fitted to. A tight belt will cause a whining noise to be emitted from the engine. Therefore, upon hearing this sound make sure to book in a repair as soon as possible. The cambelt will need replacing at some point in your car's lifespan, usually around the 30,000 – 50,000 mile mark but make sure to consult your vehicle owner’s manual to double check as it may vary depending on the car. If you're considering replacing the timing belt yourself, don't! Trying to carry out a repair such as this by yourself is incredibly dangerous!
